Toronto Fly-out Recap

Our May Toronto Fly-out gave Performance Flight pilots the opportunity to take their training beyond the local airspace and into a real-world international flying environment.

The day was designed to be both educational and memorable, combining valuable cross-border operations training with a fun destination experience in the heart of Toronto. Pilots flew from Westchester County Airport to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, gaining firsthand experience with international flight planning, customs requirements, timing considerations, and the procedural differences between flying in the U.S. and Canada.

A major focus of the trip was learning how to use the aircraft as a practical travel tool. From preparing E-APIS information and passenger manifests to coordinating customs paperwork and planning around international procedures, the fly-out gave pilots a closer look at what goes into safely and confidently flying across the border.

Along the way, the group also enjoyed some incredible sightseeing from the air, including views of Lake Ontario, the Toronto skyline, Buffalo, and Niagara Falls. Once in Toronto, participants had time to explore the city and enjoy lunch at the 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower, making the day just as rewarding on the ground as it was in the air.

Events like this are an important part of the Performance Flight experience. They help pilots build skill, confidence, and perspective in situations that go beyond routine training. The Toronto Fly-out was a great reminder that aviation is not only about learning how to fly airplanes, but also learning how to use them to go places, experience new destinations, and expand what is possible as a pilot.
